Friends of Waterlow Park 27th August 2022

Remembering Christine Farrell 1940 – 2022 Christine Farrell was a stalwart supporter of the Friends of Waterlow Park in Highgate, North London, for many years. She first joined the Friends committee after retirement from a busy career as a health and social affairs researcher during which she published and co-authored a large number of papers investigating a range of topical issues. Christine had extensive experience of committee work and from 2011 fulfilled the roles of acting Chair, Co-chair (with Ceridwen Roberts) and Deputy Chair of the Friends before stepping down in 2017. She was particularly involved in the creation and development of the Kitchen Garden in the Park which was eventually opened by Cllr Tulip Siddiq for Camden in June 2011 and which continues to thrive with 10 community groups tending the plots and an area which acts as a nursery for the Friends’ activities around the Park. Christine spent considerable time and energy keeping the plotholders informed, dealing with their problems and ensuring they liaised closely with Camden Council. But Christine enjoyed the fun side of volunteering too and especially relished her fortune-telling role at the Friends’ 2016 Lark in the Park event. She was always keen that the Park should also maintain links with other Friends’ groups both in Camden and in the wider London scene and played an active role in the London Friends Group Network. Through all these varied activities, Christine made a significant contribution to Waterlow Park and to the work of volunteer groups involved in green spaces about which she cared very much.
