Thoughts

In my earlier thought I forgot to say that we had great times in Italy too with Maura in Florence and at Maura's house in Scarlino. I can't think why I didn't mention it first!

Christine and I have been friends for over 40 years and met when we were in the group of people who set up the Social Research Association. We became firm friends and enjoyed some lovely holidays together including in Egypt and Jordan as well as parts of the UK. This got more difficult as we got older but I do and will miss her.

Tribute to Christine Thank you for: • Being my boss at the King’s Fund and making Bill’s sabbatical possible • Being our ‘London friend’ after I moved to Vancouver • Your hospitality – B&B chez Christine, splendid dinners, late night conversations over too much wine • Introducing me to the LRB Bookshop, Eric Ravilious, Waterlow Park, Estorick Gallery, Stendhal’s syndrome (a surfeit of art masterpieces) • Helping us organize two international conferences (Where’s the Patient’s Voice in Health Professional Education?) and writing the conference report • Your anger at stupidity (especially politicians) • Your generosity Sorry that: • We never got to the Musée d’Orsay • I made you walk the Cornish coast path from Lamorna to Mousehole because I’d forgotten about the steep ups and downs, the rocks, the mud. • We didn’t get to say goodbye.
